Markets and sectors
Before investing in new stocks it is advisable to check the overall trend of the market and sector to which those stocks belong. The market is like a sea on which stocks are like boats. When the tide ebbs all boats come down, and vice versa. So too on the stock market: it is extremely hard to find rising stocks in a bear market. We therefore recommend that you check the trend of the market on which a stock is traded before you buy that stock, whether to replace a stock you just sold, to start a portfolio or to expand it. You can also check the trend of its specific sector. If both trends are favorable you are on the safe side, especially if you buy a stock recently primed for a rise. If both trends are unfavorable we strongly recommend not to buy. Be patient and keep a high cash position, better days will come. During uncertain periods, be careful. During such periods you could for instance decide to only replace the stocks you sold without acquiring additional holdings. Stock Engineering determines each week the one-month trend of markets and sectors. Please refer to the " basics of the method " for more information on how those trends are computed
